Everyone knows about his escape in the book chest, but why was Hugo de Groot actually imprisoned? How much do you risk to be allowed to say what you think?

In this musical full of pop-rock music, this well-known chapter of our history proves to be more relevant than ever. What is freedom worth if you only get it by conforming? What price are you willing to pay for peace? In a country where faith and politics clash, Hugo chooses tolerance and freedom of thought. In doing so, he makes himself an enemy and loses his own freedom. When Hugo is imprisoned in Loevestein Castle, his voice seems to be silenced forever. Thanks to the courage and ingenuity of his wife Maria, a plan is devised, and the rest is history.
